Full entry

Why it exists

Form 5472 is designed to attach to a Form 1120 (the US corporate income tax return). A disregarded LLC doesn’t actually file a 1120 — it has no separate US tax identity for income tax — so the IRS created the “pro-forma 1120” convention: a 1120 filled in only to the extent needed to make the 5472 attachment work, with the header marked “Foreign-owned U.S. DE”.

What goes on it

  • Name, EIN, address (identifying information)
  • The “Foreign-owned U.S. DE” header text
  • Enough of the identifying boxes to let the IRS route the 5472 correctly

The schedules and income/expense lines are left blank. The actual information return is Form 5472 attached to this cover.

Filed how?

By fax or mail, together with the 5472. The IRS does not accept this combination for e-filing in the ordinary disregarded-entity case; BorderFile files by fax and stores the confirmation page on your filing record.
